The often "live in" assembly hall overseer is another huge money drain. In our part of the world it is often reserved for one of the sunset pioneer couples to enjoy a free suite provided they ride the $$$John Deere lawnmower/snow plough once a week and look busy at every assembly by c hekcing theermostats, chastising kids for playing in the lunch room and schmoozing with the appointed assembly overseer late afternoon in a an office at the back of the hall.

"Suggested" Donation when attending Circuit Assembly
by BluesBrother ini could have called this "fee now charged to go to circuit assembly" but i do not want to start rumours that go beyond what was actually said.
the k hall announcement encouraged attendance at the upcoming assembly day.
the elder then said that since the congregation no longer has to make a blanket donation to the assembly hall it is expected that the publishers remember their responsibility to maintain the costs.

Circuit Accounting
by dontplaceliterature inthis topic has been covered multiple times on the forum, but i am having trouble locating any paperwork that demonstrates how the cost of assemblies is calculated.
does anyone have this?
i have a friend who is asking for it.

Total Expenses x a "factor" divided by #of circult assembly days (SAD and CA) divided by the number of publishers in the circuit = "your support" which is always rounded up to the nearest $10. Nice little profit centres are the assembly halls as long as there is support and costs don't rise.

I find this quite annoying that the won't let the number be known - especially since it has been months since the memorial was held. In years past there was a frenzy to get the number out - especially when it was declining. Are they buying time to come up with some form of "new light" on the reason for the 5 year increase pattern?
The declining number of annointed was one of the "indicators" of the end proximity - in many ways (for me at least) it was a factor in believing WTBS had the "truth". Does not talking about it simply hope the matter goes away? There is a huge disconnect on this matter that would be quite frightening if I was still in.

He was the ideal person to be the first to walk on another workld, reflecting what is good in humankind - modest, fiercely loyal to his family, country and team members while never backing down from a challenge. Ad Astra.

I was 14 that wonderful summer of 1969. Neil showed the generation of Boomers that anything is possible and that the tragedy of Appolo 1 was not lost on a very brave bunch of men and their equally brave wives and families. Ad Astra Neil.

Apostasy - Rhetorical Argument
by Simon Morley ini was musing on this for several weeks now and wanted to share it with you.. if a person who has no religious affiliation (apart from a love of god) converted to a jw they would be welcomed by their new jw community and likely rejected (albeit small) by some of their family.
if that person now a jw converted to islam and became a muslim, (but still loved god) they would be welcomed by their new islamic community and penalized (d/f) by their former jw community.
if now that same person (still loving god) stopped being a muslim and went back to being a jw they would be welcomed back by their jw community but penalized (possible death threats) by their former islamic community.

I was musing on this for several weeks now and wanted to share it with you.
After some time the person decides to fade from the JW organization and goes back to having no religious affiliation apart from, yes you guessed it – loving God.
So, under which religious organization will that person be judged by God (whom this person still loves) as in both cases that person is an apostate in the eyes of each religion? Both the Bible and the Quran speak of those who reject faith after they accepted it, and then go on adding to their defiance of faith, never will their repentance be accepted; for they are those who have (of set purpose) gone astray and are not forgiven – for JW’s it is an unforgivable sin for Muslims the person is deserving of death.
One cannot (not using the word in the pejorative) be an apostate twice – even though I do not consider myself an apostate – but some of my family do. It does not matter – what does matter is the act of deconversion that sets the individual, alone and distinct to be accountable directly to God and not an organization. The answer would logically indicate that God simply does not have religious organizations as all cannot claim to be the true religion. Organized religion is anathema to God’s nature – no organization should take away the individuals freedom of choice and free will and be solely accountable.

A merger between Scientology + JW's? After all they have very similar core doctrines. Maybe Tom Cruise and John Travolta will join the GB and bring back the glory days of Chitty & Greenlees.

Add your favorite JW prayer cliche'
by King Solomon inyou know what i'm talking about: the trite, often-repeated phrases that convey the person offering the prayer has drawn a mental blank, and utters these words while their brain desperately searches for the next cliche', so they can conclude the ritual with the required tag, "in jesus' name we pray".... (is that like the postage stamp?).
ok, i'll kick this one off, and take the most obvious:.
"forgive us where we fall short....".

A pet peeve - using "Father" as a prefix and suffix for every sentence.
